Antigua and Barbuda will cater for sailing enthusiasts of all ages and capabilities in 2013. The Sailing Capital of the Caribbean offers a variety of opportunities to get involved, from lessons for complete novices right up to the chance to witness some of the world’s finest yachtsmen participate in races across the Caribbean with Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa offering a 10-nights all-inclusive Luxury Included® break from £2,285 per person with return flights and resort transfers included.

The all new Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta will be taking place 08-10 February with everything from great CSA racing classes to a Laser Pico class offering exciting dinghy racing off the south beach of Jolly Harbour. Visitors are also advised not to miss the various Rum Parties throughout the regatta, featuring a Rum & Bites Party on Friday night, a Rum & Rhythms Party on Saturday night, and a Rum on the Beach Party at Jolly Harbour’s South Beach beginning mid-afternoon on Sunday, which will also feature the Regatta prize-giving ceremony with some very special prizes.

The RORC Caribbean 600 Race celebrates its fifth anniversary on 18 February with a record fleet set to participate this year. Anyone can participate in the Antigua Yacht Club International Laser on 09-10 March, with the Antigua Yacht Club making lasers available to those who don’t have one. The 26th Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is one of the world’s premier classic yachting events taking place from 18-21 April and bringing together a fantastic collection of yachts and people from all sailing backgrounds.

The Guadeloupe to Antigua Race is a 42-nautical mile race open to boats of all types and takes place on 26 April right before the start of Antigua Sailing Week from 27 April – 03 May. A variety of courses are on offer to all classes with a busy party schedule for those watching from on land, culminating in the Awards Presentation and Final Party at Nelson’s Dockyard on Friday 03 May.

The Caribbean Dinghy Championship runs from 15-17 November with visiting teams from all corners of the Caribbean and classes ranging from under 12’s to open classes for adults. The 52nd Annual Antigua Yacht Show is extended to cover six-days of sailing from 01-07 December. The Nelson’s Pursuit Race will bring the sailing calendar of 2013 to a close on 31 December as a festive tradition commemorating Lord Nelson’s famous pursuit of the French fleet across the Atlantic in 1805 and the subsequent Battle of Trafalgar.

Many of the island’s resorts offer a variety of sailing opportunities throughout the year, from The Inn at English Harbour offering the opportunity to charter their private Xenia & Faye 26 metre yacht, learning to hobi-cat sail at Curtain Bluff, professional instruction at the Nonsuch Bay sailing school to complimentary lessons and equipment at St James’s Club. There are also youth sailing programs running in July and August for ages 8-18 years teaching sailing and seamanship skills, www.antiguayachtclub.com.
